Oblate Deans have an important role in our monastery’s work of sharing our Benedictine way of life. Deans are oblates who have made final oblation and have been selected by the director to offer service and counsel toward becoming a Benedictine oblate. The associate oblate director (director) or deans conduct the informational sessions and monthly meetings, direct the formation program, and accept candidates to the novitiate and final oblation. These leaders are available to meet one-on-one with candidates, novices, and oblates.
The Benedictine Oblate Deans of Sacred Heart Monastery lead the Oblate Chapters of Lincoln, Hastings and Steinauer in Nebraska. Their desire to be present at the monastery and seeking ways to continue their formation, they planned and each prepared retreat conferences for their retreat (Sept 30-Oct 2, 2016). Such topics were, silence, stability, hospitality, the spirituality of the cellarer, the spiritual power of the enneagram and the Personal Rule of Life. Within the retreat, time was given to report on each chapter. Within this discussion, they expressed their wish to renew their intention to be an Oblate Dean. This was then completed in the Bishop Marty Memorial chapel at the closing of Sunday Morning Prayer. Sister Penny, Prioress, expressed her appreciation on behalf of the monastery and all the Sisters responded with a strong applause.
Blessings to you,
