Plan for our Lenten Retreat - February 17, 2018
Our Lenten Retreat, 2017
About 30 people participated in our Lent Retreat, 2017, “A Season for Transformation” Saturday morning, March 4, 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Following Sister Jeanne’s presentations, there was small group discussion, and also time for quiet prayer. The focus of the day was to be aware of and change sinful patterns and learn what will help to get at the roots of sinfulness and turn more fully to God.
The Lenten retreat drew on the wisdom of contemporary spiritual authors and early spiritual giants such as Evagrius and Cassian, who taught that “thoughts” are a key to noticing and confronting the roots of sin and a pivotal point for choosing inner freedom and new life. We saw how this journey of purification and transformation is reflected in the lives of saints and biblical figures.
One of the biblical figures, Saint Mary Magdalene, was the first to whom the Risen Lord revealed himself. Because she proclaimed the news to the apostles, saying, “I have seen the Lord,” she is known as the “Apostle to the Apostles.” She emerges to claim to her rightful identity after centuries of misidentification.
